My desire to become a doula, childbirth educator and baby planner stems from the birth of my son, when I realised that more women need to be educated in knowing their choices so that they can make the best decisions for their family. Hence Mindful Mothering was born! My motto is "empowering families, honoring birth, changing lives". I look forward to assisting you through your journey, providing support when and as needed.

My name is Feven Binega-Northcott. I am a mother of two, a Montessori teacher and of course, a Doula!
My Journey as a doula begun in December 2007 when I learned that I was pregnant with my second child. Before long, I started reflecting on my previous birth experience and identified what and how I wanted to do differently for my second birth. I read, attended childbirth classes, maintained a healthy diet and exercise habit in an effort to gain optimum physical and mental state for a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After a Cesarean) and finally after much discussion with my husband, hired a Doula. It was the best decision ever!
The outcome, simply put, was positive! It was hard work, but our doula’s unconditional support through out the whole labour and delivery and postpartum was inspirational: it echoed my philosophy of a (W)holistic approach to parenting and education. This experience made such an impact that I shortly decided to be come a doula. I wanted assist couples achieve the “BEST” birth experience as they define it.

I took the very first Doula training in Bermuda in November 2008 with my then 5 month old baby daughter and have since successfully supported several couples at their chosen birthplaces.

My role as a doula is to provide couples with the following:

Informational support during pregnancy, labour and postpartum
Emotional support throughout pregnancy, labour and postpartum
Physical support during labour and delivery
Confidentiality

If you are considering having a doula for your birth, email or call me

Best wishes,
Feven

I am a nurse by profession but since having my six children I have nurtured a new passion for birth and parenting.   I am now a Certified Childbirth Educator and experienced Doula. As a doula my goal is to help each woman to have a safe, satisfying and fulfilling birth as she defines it and to support her partner at the level which he requires it.  I have supported women who have chosen no medical pain relief, those who choose pain medication including epidurals, women who are hoping for a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section) and those who have emergency c-sections.  Although, not a breastfeeding counselor or postpartum doula, I am an experienced breastfeeding supporter and mother and can also offer information and support with newborn care and other postnatal issues.

As a postpartum doula I am here to help the couple to be informed, comfortable and confident.  Those early days are sacred times and I can take care of those light household chores, meal preparation and provide resources for new parents, to enable the couple to focus on their new baby.

Having a postpartum doula has many benefits, my strength is offering the new couple correct and up-to-date information on breastfeeding.  Presently I facilitate three prenatal breastfeeding classes (Department of Health, Birth Matters and Conscious Birth).  Over the last few years I have assisted over 150 coupes who have needed help with a range of problems/challenges from nipple soreness to supporting the 'not yet latching' baby.  In my experience many of these issues are easier to prevent when mom has the right information. Help with latch and position in these early days makes her comfortable and confident and less likely to encounter as many difficulties.

I believe this is how moms should be starting off on this new journey into 'Motherhood'...... confident.

My journey to becoming a Doula was motivated by the desire to help women and their partners’ bridge the gap between the initial excitement of pregnancy and the uncertainty of what comes with Birth.  With emphasis on Childbirth Education and a Healthy and Exciting Diet, I look forward to helping you prepare for one of your most important roles – life as a Parent.  Birth is natural, and it is hard work, and as your Doula I aim to provide you with the tools to claim the confidence that will help you have an empowering and joyful experience – birth, and beyond!

As a DONA trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, I am near completion of my Birth Doula Certification.  Additionally, I am pursuing a Childbirth & Breastfeeding Education Diploma through Childbirth International.
